In 1874, President Domingo Faustino Sarmiento presented or displayed to the National Congress a project of creation of a public stroll in the territories of Palermo. He himself was called “Park Three of February”, in commemoration of the battle of Caretakers.
It officially opened to the public on
11th November of 1875. It counted on a zoological section provided with animals donated by this founder. In 1888, the transference of Park Three of February was decreed to the scope of the Municipality of the City of Buenos Aires and the formation of a “Zoological and Botanical Garden”.
On 20th September1888, the Director to the Dr. named Eduardo Holmberg projected the location of the gardens, lakes and layouts of the avenues. Then the collection included 53 species of different parts from the world, conformed by 650 animals. In 1991 it was privatized.
Here you will be able to observe different species from river and sea. This is a fine opportunity to see the sharks of the Argentine Sea besides the other salt water fish, such as rays, sea breams and most beautiful tropical fish.
