Unexpected = surprising ?

While walking through the streets of Buenos Aires, I was interrupted by a performance made by a theatre company, who did a 40 seconds choreography based on their upcoming show, while cars where waiting for the green light to go: I was amazed by the disruptive nature of this move; and so where the people who passed by, who smiled and talked about it.
