In 1871, with the outbreak of Yellow Fever, these houses were soon overtaken by squatters, creating the city's historic halls (tenement houses). Since1970, there was no act for the protection of property owners. Today the neighborhood of San Pedro Telmo is an important historic corner of the city.
Locals and tourists alike assemble to the Plaza Dorrego on the oldest street in the city, for the antique market and vibrant street performances, including tango, held on Sunday from 10am to 6pm. The zone conserves the enchantment of the paving stone small streets, the low houses and the lights that ignite to the dusk. It is located downtown and they delimit the avenue Stroll Columbus, the Cochabamba streets, Bolivar and Mexico.
It is located on the passage San Lorenzo 380. It is known with a name for being the narrowest house of the city. Its front measures only 5 meters wide and their walls have a thickness of 70 centimeters.
The weekends are the best days to cross the district, to observe and to participate in spectacles in the street. In Plaza Dorrego, central point Sundays are famous for the fairs of San Telmo. It is organized by the Museum of the City. This fair concentrates to more than 200 positions of sale.
