The building had undergone a construction in 1950's for setting up the headquarters of National Library. It was inaugurated in 1992, after a number of difficulties. This place is set in the middle of several large gardens. The library possesses more than 5 million books, arranged in 3 basements.

In the basement, there is a comprehensive newspaper and magazine archive featuring provincial as well as national editions. At the comfortable auditorium there are always interesting seminars and exhibits.

The Public Library of Buenos Aires - today National Library was created by decree of the Governing body of the Revolution of May. It opened up on 7th of September 1810. By his important bibliographical volume it is the main Argentine library and one of most important of America.

It is consulted by tertiary and university, educational and investigating students of the country and the foreigner. This sure is a gateway to knowledge. As a reminder, you are not allowed to eat, to drink, to smoke or use cellular telephones.
