It was initiated on May 25, 1908 with the opera 'Aida' by Giuseppe Verdi. Its architecture reflects the Italian revival. The sophisticated plaster mouldings, stained glass dome, sweeping staircase, sculpted busts with gold- leaf details, frescoes, French furnishings and gargantuan chandelier in the theatre hall are some of the elements which create the unparalleled luxury.

Some 2,500 theatre goers experience some of the world's finest ballet along with the Colón's own Ballet Estable, Filarmónica symphony orchestra and opera during seasonal performances.

The Library of the Theater Columbus is unique characteristics in country. The Library has special collections of the programs of the Theater Columbus from its inauguration in 1908 to the activities of the Theater initiated in 1927.

The hall measuring 14 meters by 28 meters is crowned by a luminous vitral in cupola form, to 25 meters of the ground, made by the Gaudin house of Paris.
